FROZEroed out
(The name of the project in the Russian version is a combination of the word “winter” and the expression “I don’t bring out”, in the context of “there is no energy for something”. I tried to convey the same meaning of the name in English. I combined the word “Frozen” and the expression “zeroed out”.)
The project was born at the beginning of winter. It was sad and painful and cold, and winter was starting all around, and it was quiet and clean. The trees, the river, everything went to sleep. It went to zero, time stopped... and I wanted to go to zero. I wanted to feel what it was like to freeze, freeze, and stop time so that I could wake up again. I started with my self-portraits, in the mood and the state I was in. I shot in a studio with harsh light, achieving strong contrast and white "embossed" skin. The portraits printed on transparent film were already shot on the city pond. I saw myself lying under the snow, under the ice fragments, with white porcelain skin, cold, calm, peaceful. The state is I am there and I am here, I am then and I am now, inhale and exhale.
